“I have been with Thrivent since the Lutheran Brotherhood days, 40 years! The insurance products are good but I can no longer recommend them for financial services. The investment performance has been OK but the customer service is extremely poor. My new representative is no where near as good as my previous advisor. Responses are sloooooow in coming. The people who answer the phone are not well trained and they routinely do not follow up on requests. I have been waiting 3 weeks for cost basis information so that I can decide what to sell and minimize taxes. Any other investment firm would have had this to me in a day or two. I can't wait to liquidate these assets ~ 1MM and get away from these folks!” —Bo C. of Escondido, CA |

“I have read the reviews here. I lived 20 years in Minneapolis/St. Paul, headquarters of Thrivent. I was always a HUGE supporter of them and their mission. Since I moved to Rochester, NY, I have found their service to be totally sub-par and not worthy of them as an organization. Yesterday, I took them up on an opportunity to attend a special session on retirement. I contacted the local rep and told him where I would attend. He didn't seem to know the location himself. After showing up, I called him. Note that he didn't have an outgoing email or signature. I wrote him and asked where he was. This was his response: "The seminar was cancelled, due to a lack of interest. I'm sorry that you weren't notified." My response back to him: "That is very poor. We were not contacted and both made special arrangements to be here. Awful reflection on Thrivent." Is there an avenue to remove reps who don't reflect the values of the Thrivent I have always known?” —Paul L. of Webster, NY |

TrustedChoice.com's Final Review
We award Thrivent Financial Insurance Company a final rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars. The insurance company has been around for more than a century now, which is remarkable within the insurance industry. And it seems the carrier has used this time to their advantage. Thrivent Financial has received high ratings through A.M. Best and the BBB, and they have been accredited through the latter organization. Coverage is not offered in all states and their catalog is kind of limited, with a focus on life insurance coverage, annuities, disability income insurance, and long-term care insurance. The insurance company provides 24/7 online claims reporting or by phone during business hours. They have online bill pay and account management, and it lists its business hours for the customer service department on its official website. There also is not much information about the carrier’s coverage on their official website, nor is there a claims response time frame promise, but they do outline of their claims process. It is challenging to find any customer feedback about the insurance company online, but the few reviews available are a mix of positive and negative. Unfortunately, currently it is difficult to say many positive things about this carrier. So, our recommendation is that if you are in the market for life insurance coverage, annuities, disability income insurance, or long-term care insurance, review your options for trusted carriers with your independent insurance agent, and look further into Thrivent Financial.
