Paul Martin is the leading insurance expert for TrustedChoice.com due to his vast insurance expertise.
Throughout his career, Paul has had wide and varied experience in the insurance industry and turned it into a relationally smart and technically proficient practice of making professionals better.
In the 80s, he was thrown into the deep end of the claims adjustment profession working for one of the oldest and most admired insurers in the South, Employers Insurance of Texas. Taught by wise and experienced mentors, he was exposed to every imaginable type of claim. He managed claims from the most mundane fender benders to ridiculously complicated litigated liability disputes. That experience was his introduction to the other side of insurance.
Then he worked for Employers Casualty (a sister of Employers of Texas) in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was tasked with acting as special agent for over 70 independent insurance agents across the Southeast, serving as their marketing contact and commercial underwriter. He was again surrounded by encouraging leaders who taught him the intricacies of evaluation, pricing, strategy, reinsurance, and building rapport with agency partners. His confidence and skill was still growing.
Next, Paul accepted an offer to become a partner in the independent agency Davis & Sons Insurance in Jackson, MS. Here he once again went to school, learning from experienced agents about writing large and complex accounts, from agriculture, to oil and gas, to sovereign municipalities. His understanding of the technical skills required to serve large businesses exploded. He saw the art of the deal in closing high-premium, high-risk insurance deals.
Paul got a call one day to see if he could help a fledgling enterprise back home in Texas that was just getting going. It was the Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance Fund, now known as Texas Mutual, the largest writer of workers' compensation insurance in Texas. There, he took what he had learned about workers' compensation as an adjuster and underwriter and made it a tool to serve the public and agents through education about the changing workers' compensation environment. He grew to become part of the management, specializing in staff development.
His next stop was the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas, one of the largest and most respected agents' associations in the US. Here, he developed innovative new programs to educate new insurance producers, improve agency staff performance, serve the interests of independent insurance agents, and to help them succeed. His contacts in the industry and reputation as an insurance expert and educator grew.
Paul later moved on to to explore new opportunities, including being part of a new and innovative initiative of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, TrustedChoice.com. Paul was tasked with helping insurance associations and agents understand and adopt the new world of digital marketing in the insurance space online. As a liaison to the industry and a key leader in building support at the local level, Paul helped give life to a new branch of the insurance industry.
Today Paul is still serving the insurance industry from his home in the Texas Hill Country, hoping to make a difference wherever he can. He passionately supports his Aggies as a third-generation graduate from Texas A&M with a BBA from the Mays Business School.
